Oregon Coast Counties



There are seven counties on the Oregon Coast bordering the Pacific Ocean. Here is information about how each county got its name. Without further ado, from north to south, the Oregon Coast Counties are:

Clatsop County
The county is named for the Clatsop tribe of Native Americans who lived there.

Lincoln County
The county is named for President Abraham Lincoln who was the 16th President of the United States.

Tillamook County
The county is named for Tillamook (Killamook or Calamoxes) tribe of Native Americans who lived there.

Lane County
The county is named for General Joseph Lane, who was Oregon's first Territorial Governor.

Douglas County
The county is named for Stephen A. Douglas, who was a United States Senator from Illinois in the 1800s.

Coos County
The county is named for the Coos tribe of Native Americans who lived there.

Curry County
The county is named for Territorial Governor, George Law Curry.
